The Classical Genre

There are MANY genres of music, pretty much encompassing every conceivable taste and environment. We would like to begin to introduce you to those genres, and what better place to start that introduction than the classical genre? According to musicgateway.com, “classical music refers broadly to most orchestral styles between 1720 and 1850.” Within the classical music genre is a HUGE range of styles and categories, and most people really consider anything pre-jazz to be in the classical style.

The formative period of classical music, the 18th and 19th centuries, saw the birth of the concert, the symphony, the opera, the oratorio, and the sonata. First begun by Italians, Germans, Austrians, and English soon formed their own classical music styles. Classical music is also knows to be the the grandfather style of our modern pop and rock music, as new songs are created using sounds typical of classical instrumentation. You’ve all heard the names of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. These are some of the most well-known classical composers. Can you imagine living during this time and being a part of the birth of classical music? What an exciting time for musicians!
