Music and Pets

Just like the studies between plants and music, scientists have run many experiments with animals and music. Like plants, dogs are influenced by music. Playing classical music can calm your furry friend, while metal music can agitate and upset your dog. Cats, however, do not seem influenced at all by human music.

What is interesting is that both species are heavily influenced by music made specifically for them, using tones, pitches, and tempos they themselves use to communicate. While this species-specific music is generally the same for cats, it can vary widely between different dog breeds! Larger dog breeds have been known to prefer music much like human music, while the smaller breeds prefer music higher pitches and faster beats (kinda like they themselves sound).

Because dogs and cats both have fantastic hearing, neither likes loud music, so be sure to keep that volume down when your furry friend is around!
