John Field - Our Most Famous Irish Composer

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! In honor of this St. Paddy’s Day, we want to take a moment to celebrate the most famous Irish composer, John Field. Born in Dublin in 1782, Field first received musical training in Ireland, before his family later moved to London in 1793. After gaining popularity as a sought-after pianist, Field eventually settled in St. Petersburg. A gifted pianist and composer, John Field was known for pioneering the nocturne as a musical form. This musical form would later influence composers such as Chopin, who was an admitted admirer of Field.
